The Net Zero Conference will be held on September 14 – 16, 2020 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

While we understand that the situation surrounding COVID-19 is rapidly changing, we are excited about the prospect of engaging in in-person interactions in the months ahead and are actively seeking abstract submissions!

The deadline to submit an abstract is 11:59 pm (PST) on Friday, April 10th, 2020.





PCL Construction Los Angeles Office

Verdical Group worked with AC Martin and the PCL Construction Services team to provide LEED v4 ID+C Project Management for their Los Angeles, CA office, which is targeting Silver Certification.

Our team also provided CALGreen, LEED Fundamental, and Enhanced Commissioning.

This was a tenant improvement project for PCL’s 28,507-square-foot office space.


Facade Tectonics Institute (FTI)

Verdical Events is supporting FTI’s upcoming events, including Facades Week and the World Congress, events that showcase new opportunities for innovation in the design and delivery of building envelopes, and their Forum Series, full-day panel discussions led by local experts and focused on emerging trends and resources as they relate to the building industry and diverse urbanhabitats. FTI is a nonprofit organization that supports research and education for healthy buildings and building skins.






Karen Young
Senior Events Manager

A warm welcome to our newest team member, Karen Young!

Karen Young is the Senior Events Manager at Verdical Group. She is responsible for overseeing the Events team’s goals, managing the Net Zero Conference and additional client events, and focusing on overall strategy, contracts, and partnerships.

Karen joins the team with 15 years of event planning experience, having previously worked on the Greenbuild Conference with Informa.



Frank Schwamborn
Project Manager & Energy Engineer

We’re proud to announce that Frank has joined the VG team as a Project Manager & Energy Engineer.

A licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer, Frank brings with him a background in MEPT design, the design of environmental controls for healthcare buildings, sustainability, LEED, Title 24, net zero, and energy modeling. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Boston University College of Engineering. Frank is a member of ASHRAE SoCal & USGBC-LA, where he advocates for environmental justice and grid decarbonization.


Kevin Zhu
Sustainability & LEED Intern

Kevin has joined our team as a LEED & Sustainability Intern. He is a master’s student in the Atmosphere/Energy program of Civil Engineering Department at Stanford University. With a strong interest in energy conservation, Kevin has studied ways to leverage data-driven simulation tools to achieve energy-efficient and sustainable building designs. In the past, Kevin worked as an intern with Stanford’s facilities energy management branch and led a net zero water plumbing systems design for the 2017 Race to Zero competition.



Cartoon Watanasirisuk
Sustainability & Business Development Intern

As Verdical Group’s Sustainability & Business Development Intern, Cartoon Nawaphan Watanasirisuk is learning about the proposal writing process.

She also is using Salesforce to create analytical reports, researching potential growth areas for the Net Zero Conference, and completing other research projects.

She is currently a junior at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she is pursuing a double major in economics and biology & society.


Anna Yung
Marketing & Events Intern

Anna Yung is our Marketing & Events Intern. She is expanding her skills in social media, website development, graphic design, and research.

Passionate about cleantech, the environment, and marketing, we met Anna at the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI)’s Advanced Prototyping Center (APC) Fellow Job Fair. At LACI, she focused on the advancement of the electrical vehicle industry. She recently graduated from Occidental College with a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a Minor in Urban & Environmental Policy.

VG Winter 2019 Update: Produce LA, Arts Club West Hollywood, Sunset Las Palmas Updates | We’re Hiring!



Correction: In our previous newsletter, we highlighted the La Kretz Innovation Campus project, which recently became the first building to achieve both LEED v3 Platinum in New Construction & WELL v1 Gold Core and Shell certification. We should have noted previously that the LEED consultant on the project was BuroHappold and the WELL consultant on the project was A SustainaAble Production (ASAP). Verdical Group did not consult on LEED or WELL for this project. We apologize for this error. We would like to congratulate BuroHappold, ASAP, LADWP, and the entire design and construction team on this landmark project!


Arts Club West Hollywood

Verdical Group is working with Gardiner & Theobald Inc. to provide CALGreen Commissioning (Cx), as well as LEED Fundamental, Enhanced, and Envelope Commissioning (BECx), for the Arts Club project in West Hollywood, CA

Designed by Gensler with BuroHappold as MEP Engineer and LEED project manager, the 209,238-square-foot building will contain office space, retail units, guestrooms, and a parking garage. The project team is targeting LEED v4 BD+C Core & Shell Gold certification.


B Corp Champions Retreat

Verdical Group worked with Green Living to provide event planning services for B Lab’s annual B Corp Champions Retreat, held at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles this September.

As the local event planning consultant, Our team was responsible for location scouting, venue coordination, securing carbon offsets, and developing a green transportation plan. B Lab is the body responsible for certifying B Corporations like Patagonia, Allbirds, The Good Company, and Verdical Group!

Perlita Passive House

We’re proud to announce that our Perlita project is the first ever to be Energy Petal-certified in California and the third project in the world to achieve both ILFI and Passive House certifications. Verdical Group recently completed Living Building Challenge Petal Certification project management for this first-of-its-kind home.


La Kretz Innovation Campus

This month, our La Kretz Innovation Campus project, became the first building to achieve both LEED v3 Platinum in New Construction & WELL v1 Gold Core and Shell certification. Our team assisted A SustainAble Production and BuroHappold with the WELL and LEED Certifications and provided Net Zero Energy Modeling for the LADWP-owned project.


The Village South at Claremont

Verdical Group is providing LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL, and Fitwel Feasibility Analysis and Sustainability Consulting for The Village South at Claremont. The mixed-use development will contain 600-800 multifamily residential units and 90,000 square feet of retail/office space across seven buildings.


San Fernando Mental Health Center

Verdical Group worked with the Abbott Construction team to complete LEED Project Management, Commissioning Services, Energy Modeling, and Daylight Modeling for the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works’ San Fernando Mental Health Center project. The project successfully achieved LEED v4 BD+C Gold certification. This design-build project is a new, 15,000-square-foot, single-story mental health building.

Matt Millikin
Operations Associate

Matthew Millikin is Operations Associate at Verdical Group. Matt provides administrative, accounting, and daily operations support to keep Verdical Group working toward our mission of creating a positive environmental impact.

His passion for sustainability led him to green building. Prior to his position at Verdical Group, he managed the offices at Neil M Denari Architects. Before joining the sustainability industry, Matt spent a decade in theater management, including a tenure at the prolific LA Opera.


Kasey Hegelein
Marketing & Events Intern

As Marketing & Events Intern at Verdical Group, Kasey assists the Marketing and Events & Partnerships teams with industry research, social media, blog posts, website design, and the Net Zero Conference & Expo.

Kasey is a senior at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), studying Economics and Food Studies. She is interested in sustainable business models and improving environmental performance, and has previous experience in both event management and public relations.


Elena Sviatoslavsky
Sustainability & LEED Intern

Elena is a Sustainability & LEED Intern at Verdical Group. She supports the Project Management team on a variety of projects utilizing the LEED rating system. Elena is a student in the school of Civil & Environmental Engineering at UCLA with a special interest in green building and sustainability techniques in civil engineering.

She has internship experience in the fields of water resources and construction technology. She is passionate about high-performance-buildings and working to make the built environment a greener place.

Summer Update: Join Our Team | NZ19




One Paseo
Verdical Group is providing LEED v3 Project Management for the construction phase of Kilroy Realty Corporation’s One Paseo project in San Diego, which consists of two separate 150,000 square-foot buildings.

The mixed-use project, which includes commercial office space and residential units, is targeting LEED Gold certification.

B Lab
Verdical Group is partnering with Green Living to produce the B Corp Champions Retreat, which will bring together more than 600 leaders from B Corporations around the world.

A proud B Corporation, Verdical Group will be providing local event planning, logistics support, and sustainability consulting for this exciting event.

Chelsea Brandom
Partnerships & Events Manager

If you’ve been getting our emails about NZ19, you probably already know that Chelsea has joined Verdical Group as our Partnerships & Events Manager. Her role encompasses coordinating event logistics for our full client roster, securing sponsorships, and curating exciting speaker content. Chelsea has experience planning events for corporate clients including Facebook, Apple, Amazon, CAA, Nickelodeon, Uber, and Target. She holds a BA in Communication and Media Studies from Chapman University.


Ritika Dhamija
Associate Project Manager & Energy Analyst

Ritika has joined the Verdical Group team as an Energy Analyst and Associate Project Manager. She performs energy modeling, daylight modeling, and analysis for projects that are aiming to achieve certification across various rating systems. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Maharishi Dayanand University and a Masters in Built Environment with a concentration in the energy performance of buildings and climate-responsive architecture from Arizona State University.


Rebbeca Ramsdale
Project Manager

We’re pleased to welcome Rebecca to the Verdical Group team! Rebecca joins us with seven years of experience as a Project Manager. A LEED AP BD+C with a B.S. in Natural Science from Loyola Marymount University, Rebecca is both passionate and knowledgeable about sustainability. She has been involved with the U.S. Green Building Council – Long Beach for more than two years and currently serves as the Vice President for the branch.

Spring Update: NZ19 | Greener Events | Healthy Materials



The Net Zero Conference & Expo is coming! 

On October 2—October 4, 2019the world’s largest net zero energy, water, waste, transit, and carbon event will welcome up to 2,000 attendees to the Los Angeles Convention Center. 




Did you know that, in addition to our green building consulting work, Verdical Group offers sustainable event production services? From program development and venue selection to onsite staffing, we’ve got you covered.

Verdical Group provides materials transparency documentation and healthy materials selection services. We’re currently working with several companies, including the Scandinavian furniture designer Muuto, to source information required to register Declare labels through the International Living Future Institute.

As part of this service, we’re coordinating with MUUTO’s suppliers to ensure materials information is captured and transparently reported to consumers. Other clients include Knoll, KBM Hogue, and AM Cabinets.

Self Storage One
Designed by Thom Mayne’s globally recognized architecture firm m0rphosis, the Self Storage One project is approximately 55,000 square feet of commercial self-storage warehouse space, with three adjoining residential units.

Verdical Group is providing LEED Project Management, Energy Modeling, CALGreen Commissioning, and LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning services for this innovative project, which is pursuing LEEDv4 BD+C Gold Certification.




Noelle Ticman | Sustainability Intern
We’re pleased to welcome Noelle to our team! A LEED GA and Google Analytics pro, Noelle comes to VerdicalGroup with impressive cross-sector experience — not to mention her great energy and passion for sustainability!

As our Sustainability Intern, she will be assisting our Project Management team with certification projects, as well as supporting our Marketing team with social media, blogs, and analytics. She will also be helping to organize and promote our Net Zero 2019 Conference & Expo. Noelle previously worked at Davita Healthcare Partners, where she led the Village Green Team.

A Visionary Client
LADWP is the nation’s largest municipal utility and a leader in the green building space. They engaged VG to conduct a study of the 21 most widely-used green building rating systems. The groundbreaking research will allow LADWP to better determine which system(s) are a fit for each of their properties.

VG was also brought on to support LADWP as they pursue WELL, LEED, Net Zero, and JUST certifications across multiple projects.

And The Winner Is…
Verdical Group provided Net Zero Consulting and a Renewable Energy Assesment for The Recording Academy’s Santa Monica Facility.

The Recording Academy has produced the GRAMMY Awards since 1958.

Their 65,000 square-foot office is targeting net zero energy performance through energy conservation measures and the installation of solar panels.



Hosted annually, the Robin Hood Gala is Verdical Group’s signature event designed to support our community through thoughtful philanthropy.

This year’s Gala benefited the Skid Row Housing Trust, a 501(c)(3) organization that offers more than 1,800 homes to individuals who have experienced homelessness. Thank you to all who attended—check out the highlights from the night below.



Chloe Woodruff | Marketing Manager
Chloe has joined VG’s team as our newest member! As the Marketing team lead, she is responsible for implementing innovative marketing strategies across our brand.

Having worked as the Communications Associate at Urban Green Council, the New York affiliate of the USGBC, and as the Digital Media & Communications Associate at the Los Angeles Better Buildings Challenge, Chloe comes to VG with experience in marketing, design, and the green building industry. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban & Environmental Policy from Occidental College.






Beanies in hand, Verdical Group headed to Chicago in November for the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, where we co-hosted the late-night Greenbuild After Party for the fourth consecutive year. We loved catching up with old friends and making new ones—the sessions weren’t bad, either!
